COMMODORE'S CORNER
As Commodore of the Rahway Yacht Club, I would like to extend my best
wishes to everyone for a happy, healthy and
safe 1999. 1 urge everyone to become more active in Club functions
and support future events. The Commodore's Ball
will be on April 10th and I hope you will make an effort to attend.
With boating season around the corner there is plenty of work to be
done both in the yard and in the Clubhouse.
Anyone looking for something to do should check with me or any committee
chairman.
Let's make this a great year.
I look forward to seeing you all soon!
Commodore, Gary Mroczek
COMMODORE'S BALL
As you probably have figured out by now, the 1999 RYC Commodore's Ball
will be held on Saturday, April 10th. This not only kick's off the
1999 social season but it is also a time to honor our Past Commodore Bill
Stecher and introduce the 1999 Club Officers. For members and friends
this is the time to make new acquaintances and renew old ones.
As Entertainment Chairman, Sue Baumann, I hope you will make
an effort to attend. The tickets are $38.00 and are available at
the Club House. For Information call 732-382-4935
OPENING DAY
On Saturday, May 8th we will be celebrating Opening Day at the RYC.
For those who are new to this event, Opening
Day is the official start to boating season. Along with the official
cannon salute, the Club flags will be hoisted by the
RYC Officers. The date is picked to coincide with the tides,
so boats are able to cruise up and down the river in a
display of RYC comradery. There also will be cookout and much
more to celebrate this official rite of Spring. Tickets
can be purchased for a nominal fee at the Clubhouse on the day of the
event.
HALL REQUESTS
Any member requesting the use of the Hall must go through the proper
procedure as stated in Article VII., Section II of the RYC By Laws.
All requests must be put in writing to the Board of Governors and with
their approval will be added to the Hall Calendar by Hall Director Bill
Stecher as appointed by Commodore Gary Mroczek. Hall dates written
on the calendar without approval may not be honored.
2004 CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION
If you have been in the Clubhouse lately, you would have noticed Shamrocks
or Easter Eggs dangling from the ceiling over the bar. The Ladies
Auxiliary is selling these items for the 2004 Centennial Celebration.
Although these different projects may seem insignificant they all add up.
We also have an aluminum can recycling cage behind the building.
Bring your aluminum cans down. Proceeds also go
to the Centennial. If you would like to work on the Centennial
Committee see Chairman Dick Saviello.
BREAKFASTS
Sunday, March 21st marked the final Breakfast for the 98-99 season.
Thanks to all who put in long hours in the kitchen and in the hall.
It was truly as team effort and a great job was done by all! Just
think, in 7 months it all starts over again!
WEB SITE
The Rahway Yacht Club is now an official sponsor of the Sea Scouts
of Elizabeth, N.J. They have been kind enough to
include us on their Website. The site has a picture of our Clubhouse
and lists the Calendar along with the Club Officers. They will
update the site from time to time with new information. To log on
go to: http://www.seascout.net/ship228/index.html
THANKS
If you look around the Yard you will have noticed the window boxes
on the front of the Club with an RYC insignia.. You also may have noticed
the large stone RYC lettering in the garden as you enter the parking lot.
These are all projects that Andy Kroh has taken on to beautify the club.
Andy does great work and we congratulate him for his efforts!
BARTENDERS
The Club is always in need of bartenders. If you need work time and
can help out, see Bar Chairman Charlie Brown.
IN MEMORIAM
January saw the passing of a great friend of the Rahway Yacht Club,
Mildred O'Leary. Millie will be missed by everyone who was fortunate
to know her and to call her "friend".
