Sea Scout Basic Electricity Course

Course Description: Students will learn basic operating principles and safety procedures for electrical systems commonly found aboard sail and power boats. The course will cover basic theory for DC and AC systems as well as safety procedures for working with these systems. Operating principles for engine compartment electrical systems will also be covered in the lecture material. Classes will include two short sailing sessions aboard the training vessel der PeLiKan to examine electrical systems in operation. The training will culminate with the practical application of the course material in a trouble shooting exercise aboard a small boat. This exercise will consist of system design and documentation, tracing wiring circuits, diagnostic techniques, and repair or replacement of components. Upon successful completion of the course, the student will have satisfied the Quartermaster advancement requirement for electricity #16e.

Meals are included in the course fee and berthing will be aboard the training ship der PeLiKan. There are no pre-requisites for this course, but students are encouraged to bring an electrical test meter if available. For registration or information contact the course director.
